DIY Haunted Record Backdrop

A bar area, buffet or sideboard, or even a table propped up against a wall makes for a great space to decorate. Even if it’s just your family or a small group this year for Halloween, why not have some fun decorating?! Use the wall space as a place to prop up your DIY backdrop and add the rest of the rest of your goodies.

What You Need

  • Black Foam Core Board

  • Thrift Store Records

  • Hot Glue Gun

  • Spider Webbing

Creating a mini-backdrop is easy with foam core board as your base. I’ve used them to create all kinds of backdrops including a scoreboard for March Madness, an 80s themed backdrop for my 30th birthday party, and a ghost-themed Halloween bar. I usually pick up the boards from Dollar Tree, but you can also snag these at most big box stores or a craft store.

When shopping for your supplies, make sure to stop at your local Goodwill or another thrift store to find cheap vinyl records. Take them out of the sleeves to make sure you select a variety of label colors.

Next, glue the records onto the foam core board. I did four, but you could have them floating off of the board and add a few more.

Finally, add some spider webbing to the corners of the board to give it that haunted feel. You can get a bag of spider webbing at the dollar store, too!

DIY Record Drink or Cake Stand

What You Need

  • Thrifted record

  • Candlestick (height of your choosing)

  • Glue gun

Use another record to create a coordinating Halloween drink or cake stand. Simply hot glue the record to a glass candlestick from Dollar Tree or a thrift store! This project couldn’t be simpler! Again, add spider webbing for a more haunted feel!

I used a spiderweb tablecloth draped over the bar. I added DJ Bones (aka a large skeleton) and put on some of our headphones we had around the house. This haunted “On Air” radio microphone from Gemmy Industries was perfect, too! It lights up and makes some awesome sounds. I also added on their haunted radio, too. You might remember it also made an appearance on my Halloween mantel in the past.

Finally, hang up some fun Halloween themed radio posters and start playing the Halloween Top 20 on repeat!
