Baby Number Two: Throwing a Boho Baby Sprinkle

As most of you know, I love just about any reason to throw a little celebration! Traditionally, most new parents get one shot at a baby shower with their first born, but I am loving the trend of throwing friends a “sprinkle” for a second baby. Whether the new baby is a different gender from their first, it’s so nice to get some fresh outfits, books, and even a few new toys for the baby.

When my friend Emily found out she was expecting her second little boy, our girlfriends had a great time with a simple boho brunch, some easy activities, and celebration!

Blue Boho Inspiration

We wanted the sprinkle to feel casual and easy. A great place to start when planning is to decide on a theme or aesthetic for the event. When I saw this amazing blue tie dye baby shower designed by Susan of SugarPartiesLA, it provided some excellent inspiration for a color pallet and vibe.

She partnered with Parties with a Cause on adorable invites and printables, so I reached out to Bri to have her design the invitations and other paper goods. With the invitations out of the way and theme selected, you can start planning other decor.

Make Your Table the Star

With a more low key event in mind, focus on making your dinner table or other seating areas the star of the show. My co-host and I kept things light and airy with a linen table runner, rattan chargers, and white plates. You might remember these rattan charges from the bee themed baby shower I threw for my sister-in-law. I love when you can reuse items!

The centerpiece included a mixture of candlesticks, votives, vases of babies breath and a variety of crystals and shells. Vintage and thrift shops or even the dollar store are great places to look for clear candlesticks, votives, and vases. I’ve also pulled a collection together from Amazon linked to below. On a girls trip to Denver, my co-host and I picked up a few of the crystals and then my co-host ordered some coordinating crystals and shells to complete the look on Amazon as well.

Not enough seating at the main table? Style a coffee table or go picnic style with some blankets and pillows. You can use the same elements at the place settings there and create an extra cozy seating space.

Keep the Drinks Simple

An intentional signature drink station can also make a gathering instantly feel pulled together and fancy. I often use my bar space at home — you can see a round-up of many of them here. The nice part about a drink station is it’s functional and you can dress it up with a bit of decor.

The sprinkle took place over brunch, so my co-host and I decided on a mimosa bar.

What You’ll Need

  • Carafes or pitchers

  • Variety of Juices

  • Champagne

  • Non-alcoholic Champagne (FRE) or Sparkling Water

  • Beverage Labels

Choose a buffet, bar cart, or setup a small table. Here, we used a buffet and styled the juice and champagne. Make sure to have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. It’s always good to have some sparkling water available, too. For the juice, we used carafes that I picked up from Dollar Tree and added labels with the juice types (Grapefruit, Orange, and Mango-Pineapple). Having one signature drink makes planning easier and keeps costs of ingredients down.

For decor, I used part of my gift to our guest of honor to add some flare. Bibs make a great banner!

Don’t Count Out Store Bought

To help reduce your stress, consider taking some of the cooking burden off of you! My co-host and I decided on a few key brunch items to make — an egg bake and a salad — and decided to purchase pre-made items for the rest of the menu.

Costco sells an excellent chicken salad and delicious croissants. We also got desserts from Sleepy V’s Donuts, a local Minneapolis donut shop with the most adorable minis, as well as macaroons from another local favorite, Amy’s Cupcake Shoppe. Not only is this a time saver, but you can support some of your favorite small businesses.

Games

Because this was a baby sprinkle, we didn’t want to go overboard with games. Parties with a Cause designed some adorable Baby Predictions & Advice cards that guests could do throughout the event and leave behind.

We also played a quick game of Nursery Rhymes in emojis, which was quick and fun! I love these emoji style games. We played a wedding version at a friend’s bridal shower and it was a hit there, too.

Favors

I always love closing out an event with a small favor to thank guests for coming. It’s great to do something practical that you know people can use. One of my go-to ideas for events like showers and sprinkles are little sachets for closets and drawers. Tie on a little ribbon, put it in a basket, and you are done. You can grab these in 2-packs at Dollar Tree and pick up ribbon while you are there. Remember, even if you have repeat guests from past parties, there is no shame in reusing an idea people loved in the past!

I hope you got some good ideas and have fun celebrating another little one coming into the world! Shoutout to my wonderful co-host, Cece, and the guest of honor, Emily, pictured below!
