An Award Winning Bar for Oscar Sunday (Free Printables)
I'll look for any excuse to dress up our bar area! With Oscar Sunday coming up this weekend, it's a great time to invite over a few friends, dress up your bar area, and watch the glitz and glam on the red carpet.
I haven't had a chance to see La La Land yet (which got a whopping 14 nominations!), but I love Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, so we are hoping to catch a matinee this weekend. When we were on our vacation in California last week, we had the chance to check out Warner Brothers Studios and see some of the places where the movie filmed, including the cafe were Emma Stone's character works. It was pretty cool! Below is a picture of my cousin and I on set.
I kept things pretty simple for the party and made my own place cards and embellishments for the straws and snack cups using PowerPoint. To download the templates click here.
To start, I folded up a red tablecloth to create the effect of a red carpet underneath everything. At first, I just wanted to go with black and gold, but decided the Oscars are all about the red carpet, so a pop of color would be fun.
Using my trusty set of milk glass vases, I dressed them up with black and white washi tape and filled them with leftover cocktail stirrers from New Year's Eve. I picked up a pack of red and white paper straws at Dollar Tree (available year-round) and dressed them up with the Oscar statute and star circles. A simple dab of hot glue or glue dots will work to secure these.
What's a movie without popcorn? The perfect snack for your guests is a popcorn bar with a variety of options for toppings. To create the serving bowls for toppings, I picked up a pack of 8 red snack cups from Dollar Tree and dressed them up with the same washi tape I used on the milk glasses. I topped them off with the same circles I used for the straws. Again, a dab of hot glue or glue dots will do. Ideas include movie candy, flavor toppings, and different kinds of salt. I figured the popcorn might be a little stale by Sunday, so I decided not to set mine up yet!
Each guest can grab a tuxedo bag to fill up with popcorn and make their own. These bags are one of my favorite Dollar Tree finds. You get 10 bags for $1 and they've come in handy for my Bachelor (the ABC show) viewing parties in the past.
Any drink goes for the Oscars, but I setup a little bubbly bar, too, complete with some champagne.
To create the banner, I printed off some Oscar statutes and glued them onto a banner I picked up during Target's 90% off Halloween clearance. It's faux leather -- pretty cool! After hand cutting out each statute, I told myself I have to get the Cricut machine I got for Christmas up and running. It's almost March for goodness sake! UPDATE: I did get it up and running and it’s fabulous!
