FINALLY! The big reveal of the Dr. Seuss themed baby shower I recently threw for my wonderful friend Emily! This was such a fun theme with so many opportunities to incorporate bright colors and adorable details. 

The idea for the theme all started when talking to my mom one day. A former Kindergarten and 1st Grade teacher, she was a big Dr. Seuss fan and had collected many of the books and corresponding stuffed animals over the years. She volunteered to let me borrow those and the ball was rolling!

To start bringing the overall vision to life, I reached out to my friend Meghan at Elva M Design Studio to create an invitation and other goodies for the event. She brought my ideas to life and is so fun and easy to work with! You'll see her amazing work sprinkled throughout the party. Welcome & Guestbook

Guests were greeted with DIY Dr. Seuss book wreath on the door! Heading into the backyard, I had a a table setup to drop off Gifts and sign the Guestbook -- a copy of "Oh, the Places You'll Go." Guests were also asked to skip buying a card and bring a book instead. A crate was setup to drop off the books as well. Meghan created adorable printable signs that fit in $1 Ikea frames!

Decor 

To create the main table, I used a red and white striped tablecloth from Michaels. You might remember it from this 4th of July party setup. I LOVE when you can reuse goodies for multiple gatherings! Tablecloths make great backdrops and can be easily attached to walls with 3M Command strips.If you don’t have one of these laying around, you can also order a pack of 3 plastic-striped tablecloths on Amazon and use one for the backdrop and one for the photobooth. More on that below!

To create, a "Cat and the Hat" feel, I created a replica of the window in the book using posterboard from Dollar Tree (less than $1 a piece). The blue poster board served as the background and I cut white strips to make the window pane. Using a pencil, I freehand drew the curtains and then traced over with a thick Sharpie. Glue it all to the blue poster board and trim any extra blue edges. I had some extra photobooth props, so I added the famous hat!

The main table was covered with a Navy tablecloth and a fun skirt I ordered from Amazon. I added my DIY book page letters, the Oh Baby banner that Meghan created, and some of the stuffed animals & books that provided the food inspiration.

Food & Drink

The menu for this event was so fun! Dr. Seuss books are full of fun inspiration and you can get in all of the food groups. The main dish was "Sam I Am Ham Sliders." A similar recipe can be found here.

The sides are where things really got creative. For fruit, you can easily craft "Cat and the Hat Kabobs" and "Grinch Kabobs!" You can get a food safe marker at Michaels to draw the faces onto the marshmallows!

Serve up some "Hop on Popcorn" and "Tuffula Tree Veggies" or some "Oodles of Noodles" pasta salad. 

Certainly, no Dr. Seuss party would be complete without some Green Eggs! I whipped some Deviled Eggs and added some green food coloring to make them appropriate for the affair!

To create a fun mocktail, I used orange juice, pamplemousse (grapefruit) LaCroix and pineapple juice! The drink dispenser just had to be the Lorax, so to make the mixutre a little more orange, add a few drops of red food coloring. You can easily find templates for the mustache and eyebrows with a quick Google search. I grabbed a package of googly eyes at Walmart for less than $1. Nearby, I had fun paper straws decorated with Meghan's printable flags! 

Meghan also created custom water bottle labels for the event!

For dessert, the momma-to-be's sister made these perfect cupcakes. How fun are the mini-book covers as toppers?

Table Setting

The backyard was the perfect setting for the shower! It was a gorgeous summer day and I'm lucky that we have a lot of trees to provide some shade. Again, I used navy linens and added black and white striped runners. Down the center, I added some DIY floral arrangements made up of Farmer's Market flowers and an assortment of the Dr. Seuss stuffed animals and books from my Mom. If you are on the hunt for the stuffed animals, Kohl's often sells them throughout the year for $5 and all proceeds go to their charitable foundation.

To create each place setting (and for ease of cleanup), I layered a mix of square red and yellow plates from Dollar Tree and a Dr. Seuss themed dessert plate from Party City. I grabbed the polka dot napkins from Walmart and tied up plastic silverware with a little baker's twine. I used Meghan's printable place cards to write out each guest's name!

Games

What baby shower is complete without games? Meghan designed a Celebrity Baby Name matching game and a Bingo for guests to play along with during gift opening. Both games were a hit!

Photobooth

Photobooths have been all of the rage at parties and weddings. Honestly, I never get tired of them! Especially at occasions like this, many guests want a photo with the mom-to-be, so it's easy for everyone to get a photo at the end of the shower without overwhelming the guest of honor throughout the event.

I borrowed a backdrop stand from a friend and attached a plastic tablecloth form Target for the backdrop. I added some DIY book page pennant banners. Nearby, I setup a table with Dr. Seuss themed photobooth props, including some fun Dr. Seuss characters and books from Party City. I added self-adhesive wood sticks from Michaels. I also put out a thrifted frame from Goodwill that I spray painted white.

Favors

I couldn't have put all of this together without the help of my friend Linzey and Emily's sister, Sarah. In addition, I wanted to be sure to thank all of the lovely guests for coming! Meghan created some super cute favor cards and all I had to do was add some Lindt truffles to create a little pregnant belly! You could also add EOS lip balms! I placed these in baskets by the door to ensure guests wouldn't forget to grab one on the way out!

This shower was a blast! I hope the momma-to-be had as much fun as I did!
