More Boos Please: Dollar Store DIY Halloween Bar

I love decorating our bar area and while I had it stocked up as a Pumpkin Spice Coffee Bar last week, I moved those goodies up to the kitchen to make room for a SPOOKtacular bar.

This setup is chalked full of dollar store DIYs!

Ghost Face Backdrop

What You Need

  • Black Foam Board

  • White Paper Plates

  • Black Cardstock

  • Scissors

  • Circle Punch

  • Glue Stick

  • Hot Glue Gun

To create a ghost filled backdrop, I started with a piece of black foam board from Dollar Tree and a package of white paper plates. This is such a fun and cheap way to create a backdrop. You may remember my take on this that I created for St. Patrick's Day this year.

To create ghost faces, I used a circle punch  on black cardstock to create eyes and modified some circles with scissors to create some differing eye shapes. I free-handed some different shaped mouths and used some circles as well. You can't really go wrong here! Get creative!

I glued down the eyes and mouths onto the plates with a glue stick. It took 11 plates to mostly cover the board. Then, I used my Ryobi cordless glue gun (life changing to go cordless) to secure down the plates. Make sure you glue the top and bottom rows first and then layer on the middle row. A little bleed off the board is fine, but you don't want the plates hanging off of the bottom too much if you plan to prop it up versus hanging it up.

Ghost Candles

What You Need

  • Glass Jar White Pillar Candles

  • Black Sharpie

  • Black Oil Based Paint Sharpie

To create a little ambiance, I used white glass jar pillar candles from Dollar Tree to create DIY ghost candles. Remember those Sharpies from the DIY Pumpkin Platter last week? That's all you need to make these. I free handed the ghost faces and made these in about 5 minutes!

BOO Wine Glasses

What You Need

  • Wine Glasses

  • Chalkboard Paint

  • Painter's Tape

  • Chalk Marker

This DIY is an oldie, but a goodie. Several years ago, I purchased some Dollar Tree wine glasses ($1 each), taped up the top with painter's tap and spray painted them with black chalkboard paint. You can also make these by dipping them into cans of chalkboard paint or painting them on in coats. A quick search on Pinterest will yield several tutorials with different approaches. In my experience, all of these methods requires a little patience in applying coats and making sure you have a method in place to prevent dripping!

I used a chalkboard marker to add "BOO" to each glass. You can also easily add guest names as they choose a glass for the evening.

Decor

If you are an avid reader of the blog, you know I am a fan of shopping around the house. I started the bar with a white tablecloth from Target. I layered on a black lace tablecloth I picked up on the cheap at Big Lots a few years ago. To create some height, I used a wood crate and an empty shoe box underneath the linens.

I found a fun fabric ghost at Dollar Tree and decided it was a must have.

I added a "BOO" balloon banner that I picked up at Walmart for only $1.97! It was super easy to blow up with the straw that was included. Walmart also had a set of "MORE BOOS PLEASE" cups for less than $2. I added in some black and white paper straws and cocktails stirrers I had left over from New Year's Eve.

Finally, I had a ton of fun playing around with my new Points of Light LED Halloween Light Show! I partnered with Points of Light to show you how you can use these powerful lights to create a spooky ambiance at your Halloween party! You can find these at Walmart, in-store or online. Check out how the bar looks in Orange, Purple, and a combo of the two! There are 14 different options! How cool, right?!

 Cheers!

Although I received the Points of Light product at no cost to me, my opinions are my own.
