A 4th of July Stars & Stripes Backyard BBQ

Like many fellow Americans, my 4th of July weekend often includes grilling out and spending some time on the deck enjoying the summer weather. I love any excuse to create a festive table and it's so fun to get outside for dinner in the summertime.

My vision for a Stars & Stripes theme started with making DIY firework napkin rings with striped ribbon and star sticker embellishments. From there, I picked up a red and white striped tablecloth at Michaels. It was priced at $6.99, but was 40% off, so it was just around $4.

For the centerpiece, I reused a rose box floral arrangement I made as a part of a Kentucky Derby party collaboration with Elva M Design this Spring. I took out the horses and added in a 4x6 American flag. You can find packages of 3 at Target for $1. To give the center of the table a little more flair, I spelled out FOURTH with wood tiles I had leftover from a recent garden herb marker project. You can thrift an old Scrabble game or buy sets on Amazon at a reasonable price.

To create the place settings, I started with wicker chargers I picked up at Goodwill. The set of four was just $2.99! I layered on our everyday white plates from Crate and Barrel and topped off the look with some striped appetizer plates from the Target dollar spot (and, these were actually $1). The red plastic silverware was a Target clearance find after the holidays.

What holiday table is complete without some festive drinkware? When I saw these red and blue mason jar mugs at Dollar Tree, I just couldn't resist. To jazz them up, I used canvas stickers from Target's dollar spot, added a kraft cardstock border and stuck them on to the glasses with double-sided tape for easy removal. Target also had the cutest striped cocktail stirring sticks!

For a fun and easy dessert, consider grabbing these adorable mini pies from Walmart. They are only $.50 cents each! I wrapped up some of the blueberry pies with blue and red baker's twine and added a shipping tag adorned with more of the canvas stickers from Target. I also added in a little wooden striped spoon leftover from another holiday event. Your guests can dive into dessert after dinner or easily take it home with them if they are too full!

To top off the look, I added a little stars and stripes banner behind the table that I picked up at Target a couple of years ago. Washi tape is a great way to hang something temporarily and it won't leave residue or peel off any paint.
